USAF FAC Memorial: We Need You!
Hurlburt AirPark, Florida
By Mike Whaley
FAC Memorial Design

A new FAC Memorial engraved with the named of KIA/MIA FACs has been designed and will be installed at the beautiful Hurlburt Air Park as soon as funds are raised. The goal is to raise $18,000 by June 2000, to ensure completion before the dedication during the FAC reunion in September. To date, $14,000 has been raised. The proposed design will consist of three granite stones, mounted on a base step. The center stone will have artwork showing a map of Southeast Asia and the three primary FAC aircraft, plus some background detail, with the FAC story below the artwork. The back will include FAC call signs and additional FAC aircraft. The two side stones, at a 35-degree angle to the center stone, will each have an appropriate scripture verse on the top and the name and rank of the 218 FACs killed in SEA inscribed front and back. The memorial will be placed between the three FAC aircraft at the park, now including OV-10 Bronco No. 626 along with an O-1 and O-2. The memorial has been a united effort with input from many within the FAC community and it will be dedicated in September as part of the USAF FAC Association reunion. If you'd like to contribute to the memorial, please click here to go to the reunion site and get the full details... it's high time we had a memorial for those who performed what is among the most dangerous jobs in the sky!
