Wow! Great! Awesome! Unbelievable! Outstanding!
These were just a few of the comments of folks who attended the Bronco Association Founder's Day Picnic and Fly In on Saturday, July 19th, after seeing the new museum displays and exhibits. Former Air Force and Marine Facs along with Navy Black Ponies and their families enjoyed and afternoon of fun, food, friends and presentations in Fort Worth, TX.
For the last several months a dedicated group of Bronco Association members and volunteers have been building a new an improved place to exhibit OV-10 and FAC related material.
The new displays have sections on the Marines, Air Force, Navy, foreign and civilian operators of the OV-10. With this expansion we plan to also broaden our scope of interest to include ALL Facs, including the O-1, O-2 and others. Exhibits include, documents, art work, patches, uniforms, flight suits, flags, memorabilia and numerous other items.
We had a great BBQ lunch catered by George W's own favorite, Eddie Deen. Door prizes were given out and the CAP showed kids how to make paper airplanes. Even had some airplane rides in a vintage L-17B. Knox Bishop of the Frontiers of Flight museum gave a great briefing in the new Bronco Readyroom on the history of aviation in Texas during WW II. This was all part of the OBA's 5th birthday celebration, but the Readyroom was the main attraction.
Grand opening of the Readyroom will take place at this year's BroncoFest, October 10-12th in Fort Worth. Details on Founders Day and BF IV can be found on this web site (See the BroncoFest IV webpage.) Don't forget to register before August 15th to be eligible for discounts on the hotel charges.
Thanks to all of you who attended. It was a great afternoon and a great start to a new phase of the OV-10 Bronco Association and the history and heritage of Forward Air Controllers everywhere.
Thanks and best regards,
OV-10 Bronco Association
