OBA Update - July 9, 2000

SUMMARY:  President's message on OBA's second birthday.

To All:

Happy Birthday OBA!

July 10th marks the second official birthday of the OV-10 Bronco Association (OBA). July 10, 1998 is the date that the OBA was incorporated as a Texas Nonprofit Corporation. Reaching the date of incorporation was an accomplishment begun by the nine founders months prior in what can best be described as an informal kitchen conversation. We established our mission statement, elected officers, reached agreement on some essential goals and never looked back.

Today we have a museum that has turned into a show place of documentation, memorabilia, and history with regard to the people who designed, built, maintain and fly the OV-10. We have become recognized as a resource center for users of the OV-10 to contact one another. We have help identify and verify information with regard to recovering the remains of fallen OV-10 comrades and we have participated in a user symposium as the only invited civilian representatives. We have also had the opportunity to help (sharing lessons learned) other aviation historical associations go through the steps of organization. We are now 148 members strong with our most recent member (Gene Zameda, AKA Insect Man of VAL-4) enlisting yesterday at our birthday celebration at the museum. We are truly an international association with members around the globe. Our most recent international achievement was the establishment of our German Wing with two flying OV-10B's.

The future looks very bright for OBA. We have outgrown our museum spaces twice and have recognized we will have to negotiate for more space at the VFM hanger very soon. I believe we will exceed our membership goal of 200 for the year 2000. Bronco Fest 3, to be held during OCT 2001, is beginning to take shape as a premier event.

Congratulations and thanks to each and everyone for making an idea developed around a kitchen table (actually a family room table) such a worthwhile and successful project.

Happy Birthday.
