OBA Update - August 12, 1999

SUMMARY:  Bronco Fest 99 registration, Bronco Buster Award nominations, new members

Hi folks,

Busy times here.

First off, Bronco Fest Registration Packets went out yesterday to everyone who expressed an interest in attending, so far that is 50 people. Very interesting group, including members of the original design team and test pilots. A group from Hamilton Standard will attend as well as our corporate sponsor, Maney Aircraft. Oh yes, there will be some actual OV-10 flyers and fixers here as well. Only 60 days to go and lots to do. I have included registration info in the VAULT for you to download:

http://www.egroups.com/docvault/broncofest/ http://www.egroups.com/docvault/broncofest/

BTW, we are up to 88 members, with the addition of three new folks.

Please welcome:

Donald Brown (dbrown@lemoorenet.com) Don is our latest LIFER, and a long time OV-10 person. He has been with VMO-1 and 2, here and abroad, Hamster and a number of other places. He presently lives in Lemoore, CA.

Lee Bennett (lcbennet@tredegar.com) has enlisted for 3 years. "Extraordinair" was a long time member of VMO-4 as an AO and SACA. He's been helping Benjie sort out all the VMO-4 patches lately. Thanks Lee. He lives in Newman, GA.

Ron Van Kirk (ronvankirk@aol.com) has enlisted for 1 year. Ron is from San Antonio, Texas. We will pass along more details on Ron when we get his background info sheet.

Welcome Aboard all, we are delighted to have you as members.

Now to some other important news. We mentioned a while ago that we wanted nominations for the Bronco Buster Award to be presented at the Bronco Fest dinner, October 9th. The folks listed below are the candidates, along with a short description of why they are being considered. OBA Members will receive a POLL from eGroups, asking for you to vote for the person of your choice. The recipient will receive a trophy and his name will be placed on a larger version at the museum. Each of these nominees has demonstrated their commitment to preserving the OV-10 and the people who have served with it. Please vote for your choice of:

Mike "Harley" Richardson: Mike is the original founder of the OV-10 Bronco Association. Mike worked for nearly three years to acquire an OV-10 (#155799) for the Texas Air Command. In addition, much of the initial work of forming the corporation, IRS approval and museum certification were done by Mike.

Mike "Merlin" Whaley: Mike is the creator and Webmaster for the OV-10 Bronco Association's web site. When the Association approached him to join our group and use his site as the cornerstone of the Association, Merlin didn't hesitate to join. He works diligently to keep our web presence fresh and lively.

Eric "Benjie" Raymond: Eric is the Association's Listkeeper. He has put in an enormous amount of time and effort to search out former OV-10 folks and maintain our lists. It is a tedious, exacting job, but vitally important to our present and future.

Chuck "Igor" Burin: Chuck is the Association Historian. For more than 10 years, Igor has been collecting and organizing information on individual OV-10 aircraft and organizations. He was a contributor to the Squadron Signal book OV-10 Bronco In Action. He is one of the Founders of OBA.

Richard "Chief" Rice: Richard is a Crew Chief in charge of restoration for the Yankee Air Museum at Willow Run, MI. For the past 6 years Richard has single handedly, and with very little financial support, restored YOV-10A #152881. His now mint-condition Bronco aircraft was recently highlighted in "Fly Past" magazine.

Voting will end September 15th.

Thank you and best regards,

Ron "Sand Dollar" Fix
