OBA Update - May 17, 1999

SUMMARY:  Museum/HQ opens, Bronco Fest 99 planning, new members

OBA HQ Opens!!!!

I take great pleasure in announcing the opening of the OV-10 Bronco Association Headquarters today at 1600. $andollar and I spent several hours today furnishing our office and setting up our initial display of memorabilia and historical items. We took out everything we have in storage and put together and nice grouping of items. There is still a lot of work on a project that will always be a work in progress. This puts us a giant step closer to our site survey by the GSA. Ron and I feel the only thing left before we call for that will be hanging our sign on the hangar.

We called 1600 the official opening, because that was the time that our first official visitor signed in. He was Alejandro Penicke Ruiz of Guadalajara, where he is a FedEx aircraft mechanic. Alex was there to visit the Vintage Flying Museum and stopped in to see what we were doing. We had a nice chat and got to tell him about the OV-10. [Jim originally typed that they had a nice CHANT... it must have been a religious experience to open the museum! :) - Ed.] After Alex left, a few other folks stopped in to check out the new exhibit.

Ron and I are very grateful and relived to finally have our space open. We are grateful to all of you who have shown your support financially, as well as by sending items for inclusion. We are relived, because we now truly have a place to call home and present ourselves to all comers. Many groups never get this far. Thanks, we'll have pictures soon.

New Members

I also want to take this opportunity to introduce some new members. They are all the result of the latest newsletter. We don't have a lot of info because they used our new mini application. We will have more info on them soon, but for now, please welcome aboard:

Douglas Helwig (edh@burgoyne.com)
Douglas is from Sandy, UT and signed up for a one year enlistment. Douglas is a former Air Force RUSTIC.

Ralph Lippe (Rlippe2696@aol.com)
Ralph is from of San Diego, CA. Ralph we know. He enlisted for three years. Ralph was a Marine AO. I know there are lots of "Lippe trained " folks out there!!

C. Ashby Shoop (ashby.shoop@boeing.com)
Ashby has enlisted as our newest Lifer. He is from Seattle and works for Boeing. [Wonder if it has anything to do with the fact that North American and Rockwell were eventually inherited by Boeing?]

Dr. Lewis Rogers (rogers@hermes.gc.peachnet.edu)
Lewis has enlisted for one year. He is a former VMO-4 CO and lives in Gainesville, GA.

Welcome Aboard gents, we're glad to have you with us.

Bronco Fest '99 News

Plans for Bronco Fest '99 are moving along and will pick up speed soon. The Lifers have spoken and have asked that our get together in October be an Open event. So be it. Those of you on the mailing list will be receiving a poll to answer on the Bronco Fest soon. Simply use the feedback form to give your response, a separate email won't be needed [in other words, instead of replying to the message itself, you just click the URL in the email to go to a webpage and make your choice there... that way votes are tracked automatically.]

That's it for now. We're on a roll.

Best regards,

Jim "Grump" Hodgson
